PORTFOLIO
Furniture Design
I was inspired by the “Studio Furniture” movement, where individuals with small shops design build one-of-a-kind or limited production furniture pieces. The furniture that is designed is intimately associated with the tools and processes that are available in the CBE metal and wood shops, giving direction as well as setting constraints for the project. The goal of this studio is to design and construct a piece of furniture such as a small table, case, bench or stool. Inspired by Origami, I was willing to work with the challenges that wood would provide. A continious fold that forms a functional, yet edgy, coffee table that lights up as the centerpeice of any space. Joinery: Miters, Biscuits, Splines.
Instructors Credited: Penny Maulden, Steve Withycombe, and Teacher Assistants.
